1 John 1:5 describes God as light, of which there is no darkness found in Him. Gods light represents everything good, just, true, lovely, in contrast to Darkness which represents everything evil. The light of God is part of His essence, and as Gods children, we are partakers of the divine nature of God.
The world received light the day Christ was born. Remember what he told his disciples in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” When we say yes to our Lord Jesus, He comes into our lives and we are filled with His light. Why? Because the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not (john 1:5). For this reason, the Bible calls us the children of Light (1 thess 5:5)
Gods light in you does a lot of things- it is a life changer for good. We can say that it reveals the humanity as well as the divinity in us. – The humanity in the sense that it brings us to humility, so that we begin to acknowledge the weaknesses, insufficiencies, flaws and the brokenness that comes with being human. And we recognise we need God in our lives to survive. We recognise the fact that it is by His grace we made it thus far- Psalm 51:3 “for I acknowledge my transgressions and my sins are ever before me.” It is only at this point, when our heart is broken and contrite, that God steps in- Psalms 51:17 “a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
His light reveals that divinity is made perfect through the flaws of humanity. He lets you know it’s okay to have weaknesses, brokenness and flaws- that’s why He is here- to heal the broken hearted, to break yokes, to set prisoners free, to open the eyes of the blind, to mould you into a vessel of honour (Luke 4:18, Luke 5:31). God wants you to know that His strength is made perfect in all your weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9). At this point of perfect synchrony between divinity and humanity, the light of God reveals that which already is, by the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross- that we are the righteousness of God in Christ. So, when God looks at you, He sees Christ shinning in you- and all things being made equal, You shine. Isaiah 60:1 says “Arise and shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.” when Gods light shines in you, His glory comes upon you, and the power of the Holy spirit quickens you to move(Arise) from whatever situation or circumstance you are in, that doesn’t give Him glory. So, you arise from that mind-set of whom you are or whom you are not, Arise from every darkness surrounding you, Arise from whatever it is that is holding you back from fulfilling Divine destiny, to a place of divine purpose… where God will use His light in you to give light to the darkness of others. Isaiah 60:3 says “The gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising,” you might want to ask what is so special about this light that people will be drawn to it? it is simple, the light is magnetic. the excellency of His power made manifest in you, draws people to you. we can say, that where ever there is honey or nectars, bees automatically are drawn to its scent. The scent of the light of God in you is one that turns people from darkness into Gods kingdom. So next time you find yourself in a situation to help or render service to people or organizations, don’t ask; why me? Instead gladly recognize it is the light of God at work in your life!!
LET US PRAY
Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for being our light. We pray that you continue to shine in us, shine in those areas of our lives where there is darkness, shine through us, that we as vessels of honour in your hands will serve you. Show us how to be the light in our families, communities, amongst friends and co-workers and in the world. Give us the grace, courage and strength to always do your will at all times. Amen!!
